Yosemite’s South Rim is located 4,000 feet above the Valley floor and has commanding views of Half Dome, El Capitan, the Yosemite high country, and down into the valley below. Join one of our private interpretive guided hikes for a day exploring the mid-mountain forests and impressive overlooks, all catered to your interests and abilities. This hike is a great way to beat the heat and avoid the crowds during Yosemite’s busy season.

Trip Itinerary

Your guide will meet you in the morning at the intersection of Glacier Point Road and HWY 41 (“Chinquapin”). From there, you’ll follow your guide in your own vehicle to several hiking destinations. Your guide will customize the day based on your interests and how much hiking you’d like to do. Some of the highlights of this day include: 

  • Hike to Taft Point, a unique feature of the Yosemite’s South Rim with views of El Capitan and Yosemite Valley

 

  • Summit Sentinel Dome with 360 degree views of the high country, including Half Dome and Yosemite Falls

 

  • Glacier Point, the famous view of Yosemite Valley and iconic, up close look at Half Dome

 

  • Hike a section of the Pohono Trail, with jaw dropping views thousands of feet into the Valley below

What to Bring

Plan to bring the following items in a small daypack for your guided hike:

  • 2-3 Liters of water per person
  • Lunch & snacks for the day
  • A warm layer and/or rainshell
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera (optional)

Wear comfortable and moisture wicking clothing (especially for the warm summer months of July-August). Comfortable hiking/running shoes that are with grippy soles are the best option for footwear. It’s important to check the weather prior to your day to make sure you’re dressing appropriately- check out our favorite weather forecast here:

Travel & Logistics

Your day trip begins and ends at the corner of Glacier Point Road and Highway 41. Traffic can be heavy in Yosemite Valley during the peak months of summer, so plan for extra time to get to your destination. Generally, you want to be at the entrance gate by 7am.
